Aluminium
BHP Billiton is the world's sixth largest producer of primary aluminium, with a total production capacity of approximately 1.3 million tonnes of aluminium, approximately 15.6 million tonnes of bauxite and 4.5 million tonnes of alumina per annum. We are one of the world's largest non-integrated producers of primary aluminium.
Our network of operations services a global customer base, with sites in South America, Southern Africa and Australia. In addition we have marketing offices around the world.

Operations
BHP Billiton is an operator and/or shareholder in four primary aluminium smelters (brackets indicate whether we operate and the percentage of ownership):
- Hillside Aluminium, South Africa (operator and 100 per cent)
- Bayside Aluminium, South Africa (operator and 100 per cent)
- Mozal, Mozambique (operator and 47.1 per cent)
- Alumar, Brazil (40 per cent)
We also operate and/or are shareholders in three alumina refineries:
- Worsley, Australia (operator and 86 per cent)
- Paranam, Suriname (45 per cent)
- Alumar, Brazil (36 per cent)
In addition we operate and/or are shareholders in three bauxite mining operations:
- Boddington, Australia (operator and 86 per cent)
- MRN Trombetas, Brazil (14.8 per cent)
- Coermotibo, Klaverblad and Kaaimangrasie, Suriname (operator and 45 per cent)
